Camp Descriptions

Drawing Camp: Make your own sketchbook, work with a variety of drawing materials, and learn new drawing techniques! This camp is designed to challenge the young artist who is interested in learning how to draw in a realistic fashion. Artists will learn advance shading techniques, practice one & two point perspective, and draw from observing natural objects.

Garden Drawing Camp: Young artists will meet at Constantine’s Nursery & Garden Center, www.constantinesgardencenter.com  located in Richfield, at 2518 Brecksville Road, to enjoy and to draw the nursery’s summer flowers and architecture. Add a splash of vibrant watercolor to complete each drawing. Drawings will be mounted to matt board for display at Constantine’s over the weekend and may be available for pick up at The Richfield Art Studio the following Tuesday. This is a wonderful opportunity to experience nature through drawing. Remember to pack your sun block and water.

Handmade Tile Camp: Future Industrial Designers will learn how to sculpt a clay tile, cast a mold of the tile in plaster, and then press multiple tiles using the plaster mold. The tiles will then be glazed and can be framed or mounted to a functional surface. A nature theme and design elements will be encouraged. This is a good camp for adults to participate too!

Painting Camp: Spend a week at the easel! Create a Color Wheel. Gain a better understanding of color mixing, and create several paintings using a variety of techniques. Young artists will work on canvas, canvas paper, and professional grade watercolor paper to create beautiful works of art.

Papermaking Camp: Enjoy working outdoors and creating a variety of paper crafts. Students will create handmade paper using a variety of materials and techniques. The handmade papers can be used to make special greeting cards, handmade books, or the paper can be pressed into 3-D molds. Campers will work outside under a tent behind the studio; remember to pack your sun block and water.

Pottery Camp: Learn a variety of clay building techniques through fun clay projects. Experience the potter’s wheel, make a self-portrait tile, create a bird feeder, and make a plate. This camp will provide an introduction to a variety of clay construction techniques, tools, and terms.

Photography Camp: Learn about the origins of photography and the mechanical parts of the camera. Use sun sensitive paper  to photograph natural objects as the early photographers did. Create a journal to display your sun images.

Sewing Camp: Learn how to sew straight stitches! Sewing is a skill that can be applied to many aspects of daily life. In addition, the sewing circle is a good way to make new friends. Make a 12"X12" pillow and a custom tee-shirt by clipping letters from an assortment of worn tee-shirts and arrange the letters to spell a new word.

Sculpture Camp: Create a mask using Paper Mache! Young artist will learn about the art of Paper Mache as used by professional artists to create the large Mardi Gras floats in New Orleans. Parade history and vocabulary will be introduced and referred to throughout the camp. Future studio designers will sculpt a clay animal mask. Layers of Paper Mache will  be added over the form. When dry, the paper mask will be removed from the clay form and painted. Feathers, polymer clay, and glazes will be explored to add interesting surfaces to each Paper Mache mask.

Studio Artist Camp: Enjoy a studio sampler; Campers will draw, paint, and sculpt their way through a fun filled week of art making. If your child enjoys working with a lot of different media they will enjoy this studio sampler. New projects & media will be introduced with each camp.

Urban Adventurers' Camp: The Discover Series is a cultural study of a particular city or region within the United States. Explore the architecture & art of America. We will visit a new city each camp!
