2010 Richfield Film Festival

The Richfield Art Studio will feature five artistic films & encore flicks throughout the month of July. Located in the Art Studio parking lot. The mission of this free event is to present the work of inspiring world renown artists to the families of Medina & Summit County in an effort to continue our support of the Arts & art education.

Pack a picnic & bring your lawn chairs to the parking lot of the Richfield Art Studio to enjoy an outdoor artistic inspired film!

Local artists will  display their work & fun art activities begin at 9:00 PM

Feature Film begins at 9:00 PM and the Encore Flick will follow.

Friday, July 2  Performance Art, Cirque Du Soleil, "KA" & "The Art of Richard MacDonald"

     

Combining a cinematic story line, fantastic visual effects, and stunning acrobatics, Cirque du Soleil KA offers an adventure that Cirque du Soleil fans won’t be able to keep their eyes off of! Follow the story of two imperial twins, journeying toward self discovery and battling with the elements of water, air, earth, and fire.

   

The Art of Richard MacDonald, presented by Cirque Du Soleil. "From the fluidity of a performer's graceful movement Sculptor, Richard MacDonald is able to create sculpture that captures Cirque Du Soleil's marvelous  performers & their abilities to perform beyond boundaries.

 

Friday, July 9 Glass Artist, Dale Chihuly, "River of Glass"

Special Event, Meet the Artist, Michelle Rannells, Friday, July 9, Reception, 6:00 - 8:00 PM

   

Cleveland Artisan, Michelle Rannells, creates one-of-a-kind jewelry items. Fresh water pearls, various stones & crystals, borosilicate & fire blown glass are woven onto strands of sterling silver, copper, brass & bronze wire to form stunning designs. You are invited to meet Michelle & to indulge yourself with her fabulous handcrafted jewelry, Friday, July 9 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

      

Dale Chihuly and his crew are filmed as they go to a Glass Factory in Finland, the Waterford Crystal Factory in Ireland, the Vitro Crisa Factory in Monterrey, Mexico, and to Venice Italy in order to create a collection of hand-blown work from various artists around the world. The final masterpieces are eventually put together around Venice, with a grand sculpture on display at a show in the Doges Palace in Venice. Written by Jim Cripps

 

Friday, July 16 Environmental Artist, Andy Goldsworthy, "Rivers & Tides"

   

This film features Andy Goldsworthy as he discusses his philosophies that drive him to do what he does - primarily, to gain an understanding of the energy in nature and an appreciation for the constant cycle involved. One of the artist's pieces melts within several hours. We see another float off, while others are either swallowed by the tide or by overgrowth. While there are moments of frustration, Goldsworthy displays a remarkable understanding and philosophy regarding the way that he gives his work back to nature, saying that the sea will make even more of one particular piece.

 

Friday, July 23 Ice Sculptor, Aaron Costic, Lighting of the Fire & Ice Tower, "Harbin Ice Festival"

       

This documentary features, Harbin Ice & Snow World, China's original and greatest ice artwork festival, attracting hundreds of thousands of local people and visitors from all over the world. The city's location in northeast China accounts for its arctic climate which provides abundant natural ice and snow. Experience Ice & Snow World along with local Ice Sculptor, Aaron Costic & teammate Charlie Neff whose work & ice competition philosophies are featured in this film. Be sure to arrive early to experience the lighting of a Fire & Ice Tower built by Aaron Costic & the Elegant Ice Team.
 

Friday, July 30 Architect, Frank Gehry, "Sketches of Frank Gehry"

   

A look at the life and career of architect Frank Gehry (1929 - ), includes a visit to four of his buildings, and an inquiry into creativity in conversations between Gehry and Sidney Pollack, whom Gehry asked to make this picture. Early experiences, discovering computer-assisted design, finding a psychoanalyst, experimenting on his own home, and bringing an artist and sculptor's sensibility to architecture are part of Gehry's story.
